2022 Year in Review

Dear Oakland Ultimate Family,

As 2022 draws to a close, Oakland Ultimate has many reasons to be grateful, many achievements to celebrate, and even more new opportunities ahead in 2023. In this spirit of celebration and looking forward, we want to recognize the accomplishments of 2022 and announce some important news for 2023.

First the gratitude: To all of the players who continue to show up, play hard, and represent the spirit of the game, thank you for a great year! We love having you as part of OAK and take so much joy everytime you come back for more. Players need the support of their amazing families who give their time, effort and resources, allowing us to continue the great OAK programs, and we join our players in offering a heartfelt thank you. And a huge thanks to our incredible coaches, Chris, Greg, Michael, Robin, Kevin, Gabe, Marcus and Antonio who have devoted so much care, expertise, mentorship and hard work to our teams and players (along with all the others who simply help OAK keep running).

By any measure, 2022 was a year of phenomenal success for Oakland Ultimate. For this little program to have TWO teams competing in the finals of the Youth Club Championships was a remarkable achievement. We are so proud of the players and coaches who worked so hard to make that dream come true; yet YCC’s was just the icing on the cake. Oakland Ultimate hosted and participated in so many fantastic events over the year including:

  • Fall and Spring Practices

  • 3v3 League

  • Davis Ultimate Invitational (DUI)

  • Davis Tournament (U17)

  • Spiders Clinic

  • SF Revolution

  • Scrimmages with BUYA

  • Youth Club Championships (YCC)

  • Mixed Clinic with SF Mischief

  • High School/Club Hat Tourney

And as we said farewell to the founding families and players who have been with OAK since its inception, many of whom have moved on to play with their college teams, Oakland Ultimate now has more players than ever participating in its programs. We are so excited for the future of these teams and organization!

Speaking of the future, we also wanted to share some important updates and news. Through the work of our board, Oakland Ultimate has recently incorporated as a non-profit organization. This move puts us on more secure footing as we make plans for the future. Our website, www.oakultimate.com, also went live this spring! Going forward, you can always find out about the latest offerings, registration and financial aid on the website!  Please bookmark this link so you can quickly find out the who/what/where/when/why of all our programs.  And for those who want to dig a little deeper on the website, they can check out our “rosters” and discover a highlight reel for each of our players showcasing their fantastic play on the field.

As we look ahead to the spring and summer, Oakland Ultimate plans to seek bids to compete at the Seven Hiils Invitational Tournament in Seattle in March, and the 2023 Youth Club Championships in Colorado in August. Stay tuned for information about tryouts and other tournament logistics for each of those events.

We wish all of you a wonderful New Year and we are excited for a great 2023 of Oakland Ultimate. Go OAK!

Our best,

The Oakland Ultimate Board for 2023
